My Father told me, “work twice as hard as the person next to you…”

Ken started in the electrical trade at age 17 in 1974. Motivated to learn and progress in the trade, he was a foreman at age 21.  With the goal of starting his own company, he took his father’s advice to heart, “Work twice as hard as the person next to you, if you want to be successful”. At age 24 in 1982, he started Kelly Electric Co. Inc., later changing the company name to Kelly Energy Inc. in 2011.

Taking his father’s advice through the 80’s and 90’s, Ken worked alongside his employees in the field with his tools on or supervising the field electricians while also performing his office duties, which made for some long days. He would take on projects when the company was short a foreman or would take over projects that needed to be completed on tight time schedules.

Currently, Ken is in the office full time running the company. He still enjoys the trade and the people who work with him. Kelly Energy has developed and supported long-time employees who have stayed as long as 30 years. The average time a foreman has been with the company is 12 years. Many of our other electricians have also been with the company for long periods of time. Ken feels that the people who work here are not employees. They work with him. It’s this atmosphere of a team effort, Office and Field and Support that makes us stand out as the company to work for and is qualified by the number of people who have worked here for so many years.

Ken holds Contracting licenses for R-11 Residential Electrical, C-11 Commercial, A-17 High Voltage and Transmission Lines, KA Dual Engineering and KB-1 Dual Building Contractor.

Michael first worked at Kelly Energy in 1983. He began by working in our Mechanical Division, then transferred to the electrical division as an apprentice. He then moved into the Office and held the positions of Purchasing Agent and then Estimator and Project Manager. Michael moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1990 and spent 26 years working for large Washington based companies who performed industrial and heavy commercial Electrical Contracting where he served as Vice President of Operations and Operational Manager.

Michael returned to Tucson in 2016 as a Partner to Ken in Kelly Energy as Executive Vice President and Chief Estimator in charge of the Estimating Department. Michael’s primary duties, as well as Project Management are his special focus and expertise on Design Build Projects, Conceptual Project Acquisitions, Negotiated Electrical Projects, Design Build and Negotiated projects, as well as his ability to establish new relationships.

FREDERICK GEORGE KELLY

January 18, 1930 – June 22, 2017

“A man like no other. His word was his bond. He was trustworthy, respectful, and honest. He was my sounding board and advisor and worked at Kelly Energy as my Comptroller and more for many years. He ran the business for quite some time while I took a leave of absence to be with my daughter who was battling with Leukemia. He was married to his wife Margaret for 67 years. He is survived by his children Kenneth Kelly, Raymond Kelly, Michael Kelly and Mary Elizabeth Seamands.” – Ken Kelly

Since 1982 Kelly Energy has completed a large number of area landmark projects, and it’s impossible to drive down any major arterial in the area and not pass dozens of previously completed Kelly Energy electrical endeavors.
